During my time in Dublin I had the opportunity to do a day trip to visit Ireland’s biggest attraction, The Cliffs of Moher courtesy of Paddywagon Tours, our tour left bright and early from Ireland’s busy capital Dublin,I excitedly jumped into the green Paddywagon bus and after connecting to their free on board WiFi (Score!) we were off bound for the Cliffs of Moher.
While the Cliffs of Moher are the main attraction of this tour there are many other beautiful destinations and stops along the way to enjoy, our first stop was the Dunquaire castle built in 1520 and located in the picturesque countryside of the Kinvarra in the county of Galway, after a brief 15 minute stop to explore and take some photographs we continued our journey.
We then continued through the picturesque countryside of the northern Burren region to visit an early 13th century Cistercian monastery called Corcomroe Abbey, with its breathtaking surroundings, detailed carvings and weathered statues it really gives you a glimpse back in time to how things were in that period.
Next we headed to the coast through one of the most dramatic coastal drives I have ever been on, the lunar landscape of the Burren region is made up of unusual limestone surfaces, and the blend of Alpine, Arctic and Mediterranean really was surreal and inspiring experience place to be in.
A couple of tourists lay down on the grass to get that perfect shot
I felt like I could stay in this truly inspiring place all day, but lunch was drawing near and our stomachs were rumbling, however not for long as the next stop was the small town of Doolin, known as Ireland’s traditional music capital, but also a great place to grab a hearty Irish lunch as well as a sneaky midday pint of Guinness.
With our stomachs full and our spirits raised (from our pint of Guinness), we excitedly boarded the bus and headed to the star of the show, The Cliffs of Moher
The Cliffs of Moher stretching off into the distance.
Me giving the cliffs a thumbs up 😀
The cliffs are not the only attraction, there are a few beautiful coastal walks that you can do including visiting O’Brien’s tower, which marks the highest point of the cliffs.
If you get tired of walking, you can pay a visit to the craft shops or cafe built into the mound of the hill for a bite to eat.
Oh and if your a bit of an internet addict like me, don’t threat the Cliffs of Moher even has free Wifi, how friggin’ cool is that.
After taking in the beauty and wonder of the cliffs we were homebound back to Dublin, but not before stopping one last time at the Bunratty castle for a couple of quick pics.
All in all I really enjoyed my trip to the “Cliffs of Moher” with PaddyWagon Tours, the mix between the 13th century ruins of the Corcomroe Abbey, the lunar-like landscapes of the Burren region, the numerous castle’s of Dunquaire and Bunratty, all finally culminating in the cliffs themselves, really made for a truly memorable experience. Just be ready for a very long day as it’s a 12 hours from start to finish and you do spend a lot of time on the bus, however this is not really an issue as the seats are super comfortable and if you do for some reason get bored of looking out at the breathtaking Irish scenery the bus is equipped with WiFi.
Many thanks to Paddywagon Tours for providing me with this complimentary tour. They did not request a favorable review, and all opinions here are my own.
